BROWNSVILLE, Texas—The Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport has won a top award in the Airport Council International North America’s Excellence in Marketing Contest. The Airport’s bilingual commercial, currently running on digital billboards at the Veterans Los Tomates International Bridge in Brownsville and the International Bridge in Pharr has captured this prestigious recognition.

“ACI-NA congratulates the winners of the 2012 Excellence in Airport Marketing and Communications Contest,” said ACI-NA President Greg Principato. “Each year, this highly competitive contest provides airports a platform to showcase their best marketing and communications efforts that serve their stakeholders, as well as the traveling public, airlines, and other tenants. It has become increasingly important for airports to convey the message that they are important economic engines within their respective communities.”

Brownsville’s Director of Aviation, Larry A. Brown said “What a tremendous accolade for our marketing staff to have won again against the largest airports in North America.” Brown boasted, “Since 2006, our marketing efforts have helped us triple the number of airlines that serve BRO and the number of flights we offer.” “And each new flight adds millions of dollars and hundreds of jobs to the area’s economy,” Brown added.
