Come and take part in this exciting German-themed festival and  sample from over 200 beers from around the world. Enjoy great food, the biggest beer variety anywhere in town, German-themed cuisine, contests, and an overall out-of-this-world experience.

Oktoberfest will take place on October 20, 2012 at the L.I.F.E. Downs Pavilion, located on U.S. Highway 59 in Laredo. The festival will begin at 5:00 p.m. for those who purchased VIP tickets, and doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for the general public. Tickets start as low as $15 and can be purchased online at or at Mike’s Western Wear, located at 4519 San Bernardo Avenue in Laredo, Texas.

Why Oktoberfest?
South Texas has been significantly influenced by German culture, starting with the waves of immigration to Texas beginning in the 1830s.  Throughout the 19th Century, strong communities were established in South Texas cities such as San Antonio and New Braunfels and Fredericksburg in the Hill Country. German influence still resonates in South Texas with music like regional Tejano (which owes its polka-like rhythm to German communities in Texas and Mexico), food, architecture, and of course, beer. Pearl and Shiner are two popular examples of Texas German breweries.

Laredo’s Oktoberfest will have contests for best-dressed couple in lederhosen and drindls (traditional Oktoberfest attire), a special beer maid beer run, a stein-holding competition for the manliest of men, a home-brewing challenge, and much more. Winners will receive amazing prices and packages provided by local and national beauty, personal care, fashion, hunting and outdoor retail stores.

Free food samples will be provided by local-area restaurants and establishments, and traditional Oktoberfest cuisine will be available for sale throughout the event. Live music will be provided by the TubaMeisters from San Antonio and other groups to be announced soon.

“Oktoberfest is a major tradition in other parts of the country with German heritage. We wanted to bring something fun and new to Laredo and we’re sure we’ve embarked on what will be a yearly tradition here,” said Border Beer Fest and Oktoberfest organizer, David Vasquez.

Oktoberfest is sure to attract multitudes of tourists to Laredo, who will in turn give the local economy a much-needed boost just in time for the holiday season.

Tickets are on sale now at or at Mike’s Western Wear, located at 4519 San Bernardo Avenue in Laredo, Texas. Tickets start as low as $15.

Special VIP tickets are available for $35 and allow you to sample food and beer while mingling with beer and brewing industry leaders one hour before doors open to the general public. VIP ticket holders will also have access to a restricted VIP lounge throughout the event.

Oktoberfest is currently seeking volunteers and vendors for the event. Please send inquiries to

Oktoberfest 2012 is possible thanks to the support of our sponsors: L&F Distributors, Family Chevrolet, the Laredo Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, La Posada Hotel and Viva South Texas.
