LAREDO, Texas--The Laredo Police Department has confirmed that a gunman, who allegedly shot two male children today at a South Texas hotel, has been arrested.

The 14th floor of the Holiday Inn-Civic Center in Laredo, Texas, was the scene of a horrible incident on Monday in which 36-year-old Demond Blutson allegedly shot two boys--killing a toddler and injuring a 6-year-old. The suspect is believed to be the boyfriend of 26-yeard-old Brandy Cerny, who is the mother of the two children.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. Monday, police received a call from police in El Campo, Texas, outside of Houston informing them that Cerny and the two boys may be in danger and that they may be in Laredo, a city on the U.S.-Mexico border. While police found that Blutson and the two children had checked into the hotel using Cerny's credit card, the mother was nowhere to be found.

Police stated that upon knocking on the hotel room door and identifying themselves as law enforcement, shots were immediately fired from within the room, with one shot directed towards the officers and going straight through the room door. After calling for backup and forcing the door open, police arrested Blutson and declared the youngest boy dead at the scene, while the 6-yeard-old was taken to a local hospital and is alive but in critical condition and on life support.

The shooter was immediately taken to a local hospital to check for injuries but was medically cleared. He is now on his way to the Webb County Jail.

A convention and several meetings were taking place at the hotel at the time of the incident. Police evacuated the lobby and meeting rooms and placed the entire building on lockdown, as well as students at several elementary and high schools who were enrolled in summer programs in the area.

The motive for the shooting is still unknown at this time.

Police searched the entire building and area until police in El Campo confirmed they found the body of a woman in that city matching Cerny's description. Her Facebook profile photo is of her and her two children smiling and hugging as they pose for the camera.

In Decemeber 2011, 38-year-old Rachelle Dianne Grimmer shot and killed herself and her two children at a local Texas Department of Health and Human Services office. Grimmer had been living in below-poverty conditions at a trailer park in Laredo for months before the incident.

Witnesses from her neighborhood and state workers said she had grown increasingly frustrated after being denied food stamps for her family, although her applications were missing information. Grimmer's daughter, Rammie, posted "May die 2day" on her Facebook account hours before she was murdered by her mother in a police standoff.
